ABBEYLAWN'S Management of COVID-19

Safety and outbreak prevention protocols

As of January 18th 2021, all of our residents have had their first vaccine.  The 2nd dose is scheduled for February 17th 2021.

Abbeylawn has always maintained strong infection control protocols. When the pandemic began, we put into place enhanced infection protocols—in some cases ahead of provincial and health authority directives—that allowed our communities to help protect residents and immediately address any COVID-19 outbreaks:

Daily surveillance of resident health.

PPE available and required for all of our staff and residents.

Visitor restrictions as required.

Daily Screening of visitors and staff.

Enhanced infection prevention & control education for staff.

Increased cleaning and disinfection of high-touch surfaces.

Promotion of good hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette.

Physical distancing in dining rooms, common areas and elevators.

VISITING A LOVED ONE

Visits are important for both our residents and their families, and, we are committed to supporting them in keeping with provincial and local public health guidance.

Abbeylawn staff are devoted to keeping residents engaged and connected to family through the pandemic while physical distancing measures are in place. Even while apart during a lockdown, our residents are never alone. Skype or FaceTime calls are scheduled, window visits are allowed.  Physical distancing activities are in place keeping our residents active whilst keeping them safe.

For information about visiting a loved one, please contact the Executive Director.

What is considered by Public Health officials to be an outbreak in a retirement residence?

Outbreaks are declared at the discretion of Public Health authorities. Generally speaking, when one staff member or one resident is confirmed to have tested positive for COVID-19, whether they have symptoms or not, an outbreak is declared.

As per the RHRA’s requirements regarding retirement communities located in provincially designated Red and Orange Zones the following protocols are in place:
– Essential visitors are permitted under strict guidelines and must abide by the strict rules.

- Staff members are trained in infection prevention and control, always wear a mask,  and work exclusively in one location. Plus, all staff are screened prior to starting their shift, and bi-weekly testing is available on-site.

- Managing COVID-19 Cases, if They Occur – No senior living community can predict when or where a COVID-19 case will appear. That’s why Abbeylawn continues to adhere to safety guidelines, and monitor the health of all residents, staff, and any allowed on-site visitors. If a positive case of COVID-19 is reported at Abbeylawn, we have measures and protocols in place that allow us to quickly and effectively communicate to our residents, family members, and staff the policies and procedures we’ll follow to prevent community spread. The health and well-being of our residents and staff is our top priority!
